SIIB's Alumnus Mr. Sandeep Nulkar creates Record & International Honor!
An Alumnus of the 1993 batch of SIIB, Mr. Sandeep Nulkar recently became the first Asian to be honoured with the language industry’s most prestigious International award for his Outstanding Contribution to the Language Industry.
The ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Language Industry Award’ was conferred on him at the Language Industry Summit Awards in London. The award recognises over two decades of work in the Language Industry in India which is in an emerging economy that is of particular importance to the world.
Mr. Nulkar is a veteran of the Translation and Localisation Industry in India and perhaps its most known face. Over the last 23 years, he has worked closely with the academia and industry to lend credibility to an otherwise unorganised sector.
A post-graduate in International Business with specialisations in French, German, Italian and Spanish and keen interests in Hindi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Bengali and Kannada, Mr. Nulkar has taken BITS from a single person company to one that has over 80 in-house employees, serving over 1600 clients in more than 20 countries through its offices across all major India cities and in France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the US.
Mr. Nulkar currently serves on the State Government’s Language Committee, is on the Advisory Board of ELTIS-SIFIL, the Managing Committee of the Alliance Française de Pune, the Board of Studies of the Fergusson College and a Member of Jury of the Literary Translation Awards.
He conceptualised and lead the Localisation Track at TC World, the largest conference for technical writers and language professionals win India. He has also presented and published International Papers and delivered key notes on several occasions.
At the 2016 Language Industry Summit in London, Mr. Nulkar became the first Asian to be honoured with the Language Industry’s most prestigious International award for his ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Language Industry.’
To help promote language and culture, he conceptualized and launched India’s first language and culture eMinimag BITS and Pieces that has a circulation of over 10,000. He is the author of two hugely successful books, one on translation and the other on Indian English and is a popular columnist.
He works closely with the Alliance Française and the Goethe Instituts in India and has spent hundreds of hours mentoring aspiring language professionals and entrepreneurs across the country.
Mr. Nulkar is currently the top ranked 200 meters sprinter in the State and was in the top 10 sprinters in the country in the 45-50 age group in 2014.
