SIIB’s annual Finance conclave ‘Finanza’ for 2018 was held on 25th August by the FinEquityclub. The topic of discussion for this year was ‘Compounding Wealth, Discounting Risk’. Eminent business personnel, Mr. Adithya Bhat, Partner, KPMG; Mr. Amol Padhye, Head of Market Risk, HDFC Bank; Mr. Mukesh Kumar, Sr. Vice President, Wells Fargo; Mr. Gautam Prasad, Managing Director, Audatex Solutions and Mr. Parag Deshpande, Vice President, American Express Business Solutions were the honourable speakers for the occasion. The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp and the felicitation of the speakers by our Director, Dr. Asmita Chitnis. It was followed by the release of this year’s Finance magazine of SIIB, ‘Networth’. The first speech of the event was by Mr. Adithya Bhat, who elaborated the processes of Enterprise Risk Management. He explained how the interconnectedness of business risks could impact countries and industries within the next 10 years. The second speaker was Mr. Amol Padhye, who pinpointed the objectives of integrated risk management. He quoted that a successful business is about managing risk and not avoiding it. The next speaker was Mr. Mukesh Kumar, also an alumnus of SIIB, who spoke about portfolio management and risk culture at banks. His speech was followed by Mr. Gautam Prasad’s, who explained the risk factors in the Indian motor business insurance, the pain areas, and plausible solutions. The final speaker was Mr. Parag Deshpande, who deciphered that evaluation strategy, robust culture, free flow of information and integrity of data were the constituents of risk management. A survey was conducted among students, to establish that adaptability was the key factor for companies to succeed in the current environment. This enlightening course of lectures was followed by a panel discussion of the speakers, where queries on trending topics like rupee depreciation, FPI outflows, equity firms and Asia as the hub of future investment and employment, were expressed by the students. The event came to an end, with Dr. Jeevan Nagarkar, Asst. Professor at SIIB, proposing the Vote of Thanks.
