Symbiosis Institute of International Business was proud to welcome Mr. Tomio Isogai, former Managing Director of Sharp India Ltd for a guest lecture on the topic of " Look East, Act Global --- Cross Cultural Perspectives” on 12th Dec 2017, at SIIB auditorium, Pune.

Mr. Isogai covered a myriad of diverse topics focussing on Indo-Japan relationships like different perspectives and commonness, secret of Japan’s recovery post aftermath of world-war, population pyramid (human-index ratio) ranging from 2015 to 2050 and developing partnership between India and Japan.

Explaining the secret of Japan’s ascension on being a super-power, he revealed some important factors like hard work, strict routine, being punctual, intensive planning & implementation to schedule, team-work and loyalty towards the organization. He also explained ‘Ho (report)- Ren (Inform)-So (consult)’ model which is combined with PDCA cycle to achieve better performance and profitability. ‘Kaizen’ is also a business model which Japanese follow on a daily basis.

He also shed light on Japanese 5S methodology which can be translated in English as – Sorting, Systemising, Shining, Sanitation and Self-Discipline. To conclude, he shared anecdotes from his personal experiences like attaining language proficiency, practising knowledge, following passion, respecting partners and not making emotional decisions.

The guest lecture ended with Q&A session wherein inquisitive students asked questions regarding Japanese culture and ways in which two countries can work together to achieve a better and sustainable future. We thank Mr. Isogai for taking his time out and providing students a great opportunity to learn more on Indo-Japan relations.
