Ignisense 2010: SIIB Pune’s Annual Management Festival
Today, the top B-school fests are spread over a month or so. Preliminary entries for many rounds start early. There are pre-fest events both in the online and offline world, and the build-up to actual fest days seems a culmination of a long exercise begun many months in advance!
Ignisense 2010, Symbiosis Institute of International Business (SIIB), Pune’s annual festival was no exception to this rule. A month long build-up to the events that were held on the 15th, 16th and 17th January 2010 saw hundreds of students from across the B-schools of India participate in online quizzes, case study solving and so on. Meanwhile, on campus, pre-Ignisense events like late-night movie screenings, impromptu mono acts, and candle art kept the campus in tune with the mood in the online world where B-school students were trying to crack the preliminary rounds of various events.
The IT Symposium on Analytics was attended by industry and academia alike; and a green march through the central part of the city was conducted by the students, to increase environmental awareness.
The HDFC sponsored, Thousand Faces which was the flagship event for Ignisense, was spread across three days, and tested the physical and mental stamina of the participants with many rounds, leaving very little time for sleep or leisure for the participants. It was by design created so as to show who could emerge stronger from the process. After the thrilling finals of the flagship event: the HDFC Standard Life sponsored Thousand Faces, on Sunday 17thJanuary, Ignisense 2010, the three-day cultural festival of SIIB Pune came to a fitting climax with Noise, the rock show competition which saw some nifty performances by bands like Abraxas, Infidels of Sanity, Inferno, Insanity Quotient, Highway 61 and Random Thoughts.
The Karaoke event which was sponsored by singchana.com was a major crowd-puller, and it brought out the star-singers from the audience and participants.
The War of DJs on Saturday night brought the house down with the creations from top DJs vying for attention and brownie points.
The prevailing theme for Ignisense 2010 was “Green”. The Green Ignisense was an attempt by SIIB to raise the awareness of how societies could turn more environmentally friendly, or as the tagline for Ignisense proclaimed in its goal to highlight the theme: "Awakening India". The innovative use of materials for the promotion of Ignisense was an indicator as to how green Ignisense really was. To promote recycling as a concept, a large billboard which used plastic bags of chips in its design greeted the visitors to the Symbiosis Infotech Campus. Visitors could show their resolve to turn “green” by adding virtual leaves to a tree-like structure with their resolution to contribute to the same was mentioned on the leaves.
Face painting and T-shirt painting competitions, treasure hunt, clay moulding, vegetable carving, gaming, flux painting, tattoo making, mahendi competition, blind folded painting, case study competitions for Supply Chain Management, Human Resource and Finance, decathlon, a street play competition sponsored by SABMiller called “Nukkad Natika“ along with many other informal and formal events as a whole made Ignisense live up to its promise of “igniting one’s senses”.
Symbiosis Institute of International Business (SIIB), Pune, proudly hosts the second edition of its annual management fest, *Green Ignisense '10* on the* 16th and 17th of January 2010*. As India proudly marches into the 60th year as a republic, we aim to inspire the future leaders with our theme for this year - 'India Awakening'. The gamut of challenging and innovative management events will have the best brains from B-schools and colleges across India pitting their analytical, creative and practical skills against each other for the top spot.
Ignisense'10 will be hosting a wide range of events based on Marketing, Finance, Supply Chain Management, HR, Agribusiness along with events like Thousand faces, Grass root innovators, MBA in IAS shoes, War Strategy in which students from all the top notch business schools of the country will be participating. We will also be hosting informal night events like an Inter Collegiate Fashion Show, a Rock Show, Dance competitions & a celebrity night along with other informal events running throughout the day.
It might be slightly late but at least we have released that we might leave nothing for our coming generations to survive on. We at SIIB understand the urgency of saving the environment from carbon corruption, and in this regard, with full confidence and determination, we are announcing this year's Ignisense as GREEN IGNISENSE.
Under this, we shall be cutting down on carbon emission, compensating for the amount of carbon emission by planting trees, using eco friendly material, waste management and recycling and bringing waste material into usable form. Under the present condition of slow monetary inflows, the Green Ignisense Project will certainly add on the pressure but we have decided to take the problem of environmental deterioration, head on.
This project shall require not only one hand or a handful individuals, but the whole army of SIIBians... Let us come together to bring about a change, a change for others to follow.
Before the commencement of Ignisense (16th, 17th January 2010), we have the following events scheduled as Ignisense pre- launch events:

Analytics: A Strategic Business Enabler
The emergence of the wired world has transformed businesses forever. In this networked world, uncertainty has been the rule of the game in business. Managers, deluged by the vast expanse of information available in this networked world, have looked at solutions which would help them distill such voluminous information and aid in making decisions.
Managers have also begun to utilize the business intelligence systems for timely decision making. Analytics industry has grown to meet these demands effectively. The rising popularity stands testimony to this fact. According to IBM’s CIO Global Study, 83 percent of respondents said business intelligence and analytics are a top priority. The old quote, “You cannot manage what you are not measuring” sounds sagacious even in present times when businesses are becoming more complex every day with global linkages being forged across diverse business functions. Although the recent financial crisis threw in uncomfortable questions to question the raison d’etre of analytics industry, the after math of the crisis brought risk analytics to the fore to help managers mitigate the risks companies would face in challenging times.
Analytics has matured over the years from helping line managers take decisions across functional silos to expanding its dimensions across building strategy for the growth of organization. This would entail a paradigm shift as companies will have to move beyond their process driven analytics frame work to fully realize the power of analytics to convert reams of data into business insights for the future.
All this and more, awaits you at the IT symposium 2009. SIIB invites the best minds to debate, analyze, and share insights on “Analytics: A Strategic Business Enabler”.
Venue : Le Royale, Hinjewadi, Pune
