The Symbiosis Society was founded in 1971
by Dr. S. B. Mujumdar to create a community which
helps in fostering an interaction between the
foreign and Indian students. This helps them in
getting a fresh insight into each other's varied
cultures and thus broadens their horizons. It has
under its fold 33 institutions spread across 14
campuses with 45,000
students on the campus and
1,00,000 students off the campus.

The Symbiosis Institute
of International Business (formerly Symbiosis
Institute of Foreign Trade [SIFT]), a constituent of the Symbiosis
International University (established under section 3 of
the UGC Act 1956) came into
existence in 1992 to cater to the need of creating managers
who were equipped to understand the changes caused by the
winds of globalization sweeping across the world.
SIIB imparts a world vision to its managers through special
course modules that incorporate every nuance of global business
and not merely courses in Foreign Trade, hence, in the year 2002, Symbiosis
Institute of Foreign Trade (SIFT) became Symbiosis
Institute of International Business (SIIB), with
a mission to create truly global managers.
